GLEN SCOTIA DISTILLERY

The first distilling season of the new millennium should see production well under way once more at Glen Scotia.  In the second half of the 1990s, the distillery was refitted, after being acquired by the Loch Lomond company.  Production had been very sporadic for more than a decade.  Glen Scotia is known for more than one manifestation of spirit: it is said to be haunted by the ghost of a former proprietor who drowned himself in Campbeltown Loch.

Glen Scotia, founded around 1832, should be cherished as one of the only two survivors in the once-great distilling center of Campbeltown.  The other, Springbank, is better known and deservedly esteemed, but Glen Scotia’s whisky is a splendidly briny example of the town’s coastal style.
