Drumguish is One
of the newest distilleries in Scotland, having made its first spirit in
1991, though the handsome, gabled, stone building intentionally looks a
hundred years old. Its opening was the realization of a dream for its
owner, George Christie, who had planned it for three or four decades, his
progress on the project ebbing and flowing with the fortunes of the
industry. One of his earlier essays was a vatted malt, popular in the
United States, under the name Glentromie. His distillery is near
Kingussie, at Drumguish, where the tiny river Tromie flows into the
highest reaches of the Spey. His company takes its name not only from its
location but also from a distillery called Speyside that operated in
Kingussie between 1895 and 1910.
HOUSE STYLE
Oily, nutty, lightly peaty. Aperitif.
